PHCC has easy access to Poole Harbour, Harry’s Rocks, the chalk cliffs beneath Ballard Down and the varied “Jurassic” coastline beyond Swanage in the West - and with the the accessibility of the Solent and the Isle of Wight  in the East, it all adds up to Poole being in a really great place for the novice, the intermediate and the advanced Sea Kayaker.  

Novice paddlers benefit from the sheltered waters of the harbour - lying below the Purbeck Ridge and being one of the world’s largest natural harbours - formed about 6,000 years ago after the last Ice Age as a rising sea-level flooded the valleys of two rivers that still flow into the harbour today; contributing to another benefit

feature of the harbour -  that of frequent double high tides  - some lasting for several hours.  The harbour has about 90 miles of coastline; a shore that includes reed beds, sandy beaches and open fields adjoining salt-marsh areas and some mud-flats at low tide and this again adds up to potential

for exploring, bird watching, photography - or just enjoying some leisurely kayaking or canoeing.
